Ancient Wisdom for Modern Times – with Gen Kelsang Norden

Gen Norden, Resident Teacher at Kadampa Meditation Center in Austin, visits Seattle in June. She is offering teachings and retreat sessions throughout the weekend – come to one or all!

Friday, June 8, 7:00-8:30pm
Finding the Real Meaning of Human Life

In recent years we have witnessed remarkable material progress, yet we may feel as though we lack the perspective, wisdom and confidence to enjoy a balanced and meaningful life. Even though Buddha’s teachings originated more than two millennia ago, this ancient wisdom still continues to illuminate the human condition in the twenty-first century. Gen Norden, who has been an ordained Buddhist nun for over 20 years, will share some of Buddha’s transformative insights into finding the happiness and inner peace that we are looking for.

The Heart Sutra – Morning Retreat

In Buddhist philosophy, wisdom is a state of mind beyond ordinary intelligence. Wisdom allows us to clearly understand the habits that cause suffering and the practices that move us toward inner strength and confidence. Buddha’s wisdom teachings also include extraordinary teachings on the ultimate nature of reality, that all phenomena are mere appearance dependent upon the mind. In this two-part Saturday retreat, Gen Norden will explain clearly how we can understand and meditate on this most profound wisdom in a way that is qualified and effective.

The first two sessions of the Saturday retreat will explore the essence of the Heart Sutra, Buddha’s famous teachings on wisdom. Through integrating these meditations into our spiritual practice, we can solve our daily problems and find true inner peace.

Profundity and Clarity – Afternoon Retreat

The afternoon sessions will expand upon the teachings from the morning retreat, going deeper into the wisdom realizing emptiness, the union of the two truths known as profundity and clarity. These teachings will show how, by integrating the essential teachings of the Heart Sutra into Tantric practice, we can ripen our Buddha nature and attain complete enlightenment.
