Morning Prostrations

Purifying Negativity

Monday – Friday, 7:00-7:30am

Join us on weekday mornings for a 30-minute prostration practice that purifies our mind of negativity. Every weekday morning we engage in The Bodhisattva’s Confession of Moral Downfalls, a powerful practice that focuses on the Thirty-five Confession Buddhas to make our mind pure and clean.

This beautiful, humble practice includes chanted prayers and physical prostrations. Because prostration is principally a mental activity, physical prostrations are performed according to each practitioner’s capability.

Everyone welcome – no experience necessary. In-person drop-in, Supporters can also join online (click here to learn about membership).

This practice includes guided training in Lamrim meditation, the meditations on the stages of the path to enlightenment.

In each session, guidance will be read out loud from a Lamrim book, then there will be silence to contemplate and meditate single-pointedly.

Pure Life for a Day

Taking the Mahayana Precepts

The essence of this practice is to take eight precepts and to keep them purely for a period of twenty-four hours. In this early morning practice we take eight Mahayana precepts, promising to abstain from all non-virtuous actions for twenty-four hours. We also fast for 24 hours, only eating one meal at lunchtime (drinks ok).

By doing this practice again and again, we acquaint ourself with the practice of moral discipline and thereby make our human life meaningful. Because we take the precepts with a compassionate motivation of bodhichitta, it is very powerful for purifying negative karma. With this practice we accumulate huge positive karma, prevent future suffering and move closer to the pure state of enlightenment. If we wish to take the essence of this precious human life we should strive to engage in this practice as often as we can.
