Welcome to Kadampa Meditation Center Washington

Kadampa Meditation Center Washington (KMC WA) is a center of Buddhist study and meditation, as well as a spiritual community, in Seattle, Washington, serving Washington and Alaska. We are a non-profit, volunteer-run organization, established to benefit society through providing Buddhist methods for finding inner peace and spiritual fulfillment.

Everyone is welcome

Everyone is welcome to drop into our weekly classes which introduce authentic Buddhist view and meditation, according to the New Kadampa Tradition of Buddhism. We also offer meditation retreats, group chanted prayers and meditation, in-depth study programs and other events that cater to people at all levels, from complete beginners to advanced practitioners. KMC WA classes, retreats and programs present Buddha’s teachings in an authentic and accessible manner that can easily be integrated into busy modern life, based on the books of our Founder, the contemporary Buddhist master Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso Rinpoche, and the lineage of Kadampa Buddhist masters.

The New Kadampa Tradition – International Kadampa Buddhist Union (NKT-IKBU) is an international association of Mahayana Buddhist study and meditation centers founded by Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso in 1991 to offer the practical wisdom of Kadampa Buddhism to the people of our modern world.

Resident Teacher

Kadampa Meditation Center Washington

Kadam Trina Gunther is the Resident Teacher at Kadampa Meditation Center Washington. She has been a dedicated practitioner of modern Kadampa Buddhism since 2004.

Kadam Trina is an inspiring example of a lay practitioner of Kadampa Buddhism, and brings with her a wealth of experience of integrating Buddha's teachings with busy daily life. She offers a practical perspective to spiritual practice to help anyone apply Buddha's profound insights and meditations to their busy working and family lives with clarity and joy.

Cecilia Watson

Cecilia Watson has been studying and practicing Kadampa Buddhism for over twenty years. Her love of Buddha's teachings inspires her to share these teachings with everyone. She wishes everyone to benefit from Buddha's teachings and transform their lives into peaceful, joyful states. She teaches meditation classes in the greater Eastside and the Bellevue College Continuing Education Program.

Nick Birdsall

Foundation Program Teacher

Nick Birdsall is an experienced practitioner of Kadampa Buddhism. Having met these teachings in 1993 in his native England, he has received many teachings directly from Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso Rinpoche. Nick presents Buddha’s teachings and meditations with clarity and warmth and is appreciated for his sincerity and ability to help anyone apply Buddhist insights and meditations to their busy working and family lives.

Sam Forbes

Sam Forbes has been practicing and studying Kadam Dharma for many years and is a student of the Teacher Training Program at KMCWA. His teachings are accessible, insightful and gentle as he leads his students to deeper understandings and experiences of profound dharma. Sam teaches on Thursday evenings.

Linda Mae Stangeland

Linda Mae met Dharma in 1996 after finding a flyer advertising a meditation class. Curious about what it would be like to meditate and receive teachings in a group setting, she began attending the weekly Monday Evening GP classes. A student of our Teacher Training Program, Linda Mae is appreciated for her sincere and heartfelt teachings and leaves students with advice they can put into practice right away.

Rick Zelinsky

Rick Zelinsky is a longtime meditator and student in the Teacher Training Program at KMCWA. Rick is admired for his clear and practical teaching style. He leads a Sunday morning meditation class in Anchorage, Alaska.

Mel Watson

Mel Watson is a longtime Buddhist practitioner and is a student in the Teacher Training Program at KMCWA. Mel teaches with a clear, heartfelt, and accessible style, presenting ancient Buddhist wisdom in a way that can be easily applied in our daily lives. Mel teaches scheduled classes and talks on Whidbey Island, works for a local Whidbey Non profit and enjoys Island life with her partner, and their large menagerie of furry and feathered children.

Lynn Ann Kister

Lynn Ann Kister enjoys sharing her years of Dharma experience with others. Her practical teachings & enthusiasm inspire others to follow the path. She is a long-time member of KMC Washington and is a student of the Teacher Training Program at KMCWA.

Cindy Irwin

Cindy Irwin has been studying and practicing Buddhism for over 25 years (in this lifetime) and has a special interest in Buddhist approaches to transforming suffering into the spiritual path. Cindy is in Teacher Training Program and teaches Kids Class on Sundays.

Brian Hill

Brian Hill has been dedicated a part of Kadampa Buddhism flourishing in Seattle for over 30 years. Through his teachings he aspires to continue with the Kadampa tradition of connecting people with Dharma through real life application. He feels Kadam Dharma is precious and makes an effort to make even the youngest of beginning meditators (starting with his 5 children) feel inspired to connect with a peaceful mind.
